Conversion SoftSwim to Chlorine

You Can Do It Yourself - Switching back to ProTeam Pool Care or Synergy from SoftSwim, BAQUACIL, Or Biguanides
How to Convert from Biguanides to Chlorine Based Water Care

Method 1 POOLIFE (FROG or Nature2)
· STEP ONE: Stop adding your baqua-chemicals! Allow levels to drop down very close to  Zero (0). Run filter 24 hours a day, and add Midwest Algaecide 60% (not baqua-cide, or Metal Based Agaecides). This process may take several weeks.

· STEP TWO: Clean the filter. Biguanides can clog up filters, and leave chemical residue which may react with chlorine. If you have a Sand Filter, it is recommended that you CHANGE THE SAND in the tank. If this is not done, you must at least use a sand filter cleaning product made by BAQUACIL. The same applies to Cartridge Filters. You should REPLACE THE CARTRIDGE, or at least clean it and then soak the cartridge in a similar BAQUACIL cleaning product, and rinse thoroughly. If you have a D.E. filter, backwash it and open the filter tank; following printed instructions on tank. Remove filter, hose off thoroughly, then soak it in the BAQUACIL Filter cleaner. Hose again thoroughly and reassemble.

· STEP THREE: Check & Balance the pool water chemistry. Then shock the pool with Nuclo Shock II NON-CHLORINE SHOCK, (potassium peroxymonosulfate) Add it at a rate of 8 lbs. per 10,000 gallons of pool water. Add 1/2 the shock, wait 24-48 hrs and then add the remaining. Add the shock according to directions on package, with the filter pump running. Pool may turn cloudy for a few days if biguanide levels are not zero. Re-check and balance water chemistry. Run filter 24 hours a day until water clears, backwashing as necessary.

· STEP FOUR: Finally, we begin to add chlorine, very slowly. Place one Midwest 3" Big Tab in skimmer basket, floater or chlorinator. If your pool doesn't react to it (by turning funny green colors) keep it in until it dissolves. Then add 2 tablets, and so on, until you are able to get FREE chlorine readings of 1 ppm. Maintain this level with tablets. Refrain from using chlorine shock products for one season, substituting Shock II non-chlorine shock, as needed.

Method 2 Omni Synergy (Formerly Guardex SNAP)
· STEP ONE: Stop adding your biguanide-chemicals! Allow levels to drop down very close to 0. Run filter 24 hours a day, and add Shock II Non-chlorine Shock  (4lbs per 10,000 gallons). Retest Biguanide Levels, Shock With Shock II (4lbs per 10,000 gallons) again if levels still over 10ppm

· STEP TWO: Clean the filter. Biguanides can clog up filters, and leave chemical residue which may react with chlorine. If you have a Sand Filter, it is recommended that you CHANGE THE SAND in the tank. If this is not done, you must at least use a sand filter cleaning product made by your biguanide manufacturer (Baquacil, Soft Swim, etc.) The same applies to Cartridge Filters. You should REPLACE THE CARTRIDGE, or at least clean it and then soak the cartridge in a similar cleaning product, and rinse thoroughly. If you have a D.E. filter, backwash it and open the filter tank; following printed instructions on tank. Remove filter, hose off thoroughly, then soak it in the cleaning product mentioned above. Hose again thoroughly and reassemble.

· Step Three: Add Synergy. Add Synergy Initiator, directly to the pool or the skimmer with the pump running. Brush the pool after adding to disperse any Initiator that settles to the floor. Next add POOLIFE Stabilizer, slowly pour into skimmer 1 lb for every 4,000 gallons of pool water. (Do not Backwash for 4 days). Add Synergy Clear, Shock Pool with 1/2 lb per 10,000 gallons of pool water, add directly to the pool do not pre mix.

· Step Four: Finally, begin to add chlorine. Place Synergy Tablets, floater or chlorinator. until you are able to get FREE chlorine readings of 1 ppm. Maintain this level with tablets. Refrain from using chlorine shock products for one Month, substituting Shock II non-chlorine shock, as needed If the pool starts to turn cloudy then shock with 1lb per 10,000-15,000 gallons Synergy Clear, Until pool is clear and maintaining a chlorine count.
